Community Involvement

First National is proud to extend our strong tradition of service beyond our own walls. We're dedicating our resources to identifying and funding critical areas of community need in our market areas.

Through corporate donations, sponsorships, and employee volunteerism, we consistently demonstrate our support to a variety of worthy programs that directly serve our communities. These include programs that enhance the quality of life in our region, instill pride, and promote important initiatives, including education and youth; health and human services; civic and community development; and culture and the arts.

Casual for a Cause

Since 1995, our employees have been dressing casually on Fridays in support of charitable organizations throughout our market areas. Each participating employee contributes one dollar to the Casual for a Cause fund every Friday in exchange for the privilege of dressing casually. At the end of every month, a check is presented to an employee-nominated non-profit organization.

First Hoop Program

Since 2005, First Hoop has donated over $345,000 to our participating high schools' athletic programs. We are currently running our First Hoop program in thirteen local high schools with each school having an opportunity to earn up to $150 per girls and boys varsity game. Most schools earn between $2,000 and $2,500 each season.

Volunteers Making a Difference

In addition to financial gifts, bank employees lend their time and talents in community service through volunteer work. Each year, employees contribute thousands of hours to a wide variety of civic, educational, arts/cultural, religious, healthcare, professional, social service, and youth mentoring organizations.

Education and Youth Initiatives

We have a long-standing commitment to this important category and encourage employees to participate during their regular working hours.

One way they do this is to visit area schools and present the “Teach Children to Save" curriculum, created by the American Bankers Association. Over 400 students in grades K-8 across the region benefit annually from this important program.

Sponsorships

The Bank lends financial support to many non-profit events and organizations via corporate sponsorships. Organizations seeking sponsorship should deliver a written request to their local branch for consideration or mail it to: First National Bank Attn: Marketing, P.O. Box 940, Damariscotta, ME 04543.
